You'd have thought that shooting down something as big and flammable as a Zeppelin would be easy, but there was a time in the first World War when it was thought to be impossible.
1. Lt. William Leefe Robinson was the first pilot to shoot down a Zeppelin over Britain during World War I. How long afterwards was he awarded the Victoria Cross?
2. Major W.J.Tempest shot down a Zeppelin, which crashed near Potters Bar. The next day, he travelled to see the crash site, but found that the army had cordoned it off. How was he able to get a view of the wreckage?
3. Lt. Reginald Warneford managed to down a Zeppelin by dropping a small bomb on it from above. The explosion stopped Warneford's plane's engine, and he was forced to land behind enemy lines. What happened next?
