The Battle of Trafalgar took place on 21 October 1805 off Cape Trafalgar in the Atlantic Ocean, between the British Royal Navy and the combined fleets of the French and Spanish Navies during the Napoleonic Wars.
1. In order to make it easy for the British ships to identify each other, Nelson had them painted in a distinctive yellow and black pattern. What did this pattern come to be known as?
2. How big were the two fleets at the Battle of Trafalgar, compared to each other?
3. The Franco-Spanish fleet was formed into a single column (as was standard practice), but Nelson arranged his fleet into two parallel columns. His own ship, Victory, was at the head of one column; whose ship was at the head of the other?
