    Test Card F (Fair Use)

Test Card F is a test card that was shown on BBC television in the United Kingdom for more than four decades. Like other test cards, it was usually shown while no programmes were being broadcast. The central image on the card shows Carole Hersee playing noughts and crosses with a clown doll, while the other shapes and lines on the card were designed to help TV engineers test the quality of the broadcast signal.

    1. Test Card F was developed by BBC engineer George Hersee, who started by taking test photographs of his daughters Carole and Gillian. Why was Carole chosen for the final image?

    2. What is the name of the clown doll?

    3. Test Card F was developed further, to make Test Card J. This included adjustments of the central image. Which of these is one of the adjustments that was made?
